hmm... i bet the cops can immediately eliminate all the employees working on that batch of booze. their 'cleanliness' routines to prevent contamination of the product will control who enters and exits, plus how quickly they can do it. that leaves the wife, journalist, and anybody who wasn't actively in the 'workshop' that night.

also, the cops are being stupidly short-sighted yet again. he's a salesman and used to wheeling and dealing. he's probably got more skeletons in his closet than the obvious one, he's a grade A super-sized asshole. i bet the guy has screwed somebody over a time or two in some shape, form, or fashion.

I'm gonna guess the wife had a blood sample from the checkup he did and used that to fake the time of death, she actually killed him before meeting up with Kogoro and the rest.
I'm also guessing they won't find traces of volcanic ash on the body, which he should have if he was transported in the evening.
